Janson Coffee was founded in the 1990s by the brothers Michael, Carl, Ricardo and Peter Janson. Their father, Carl Axel Janson, a Swedish immigrant, acquired the property in 1941 and started a cattle farm there. The family runs two farms: Hacienda Las Lagunas (1,350-1,400 m, west of the Barú Volcano, named after the lagoons on the property) and Los Alpes (1,600-1,700 m, on the slopes of the Tizingal Volcano). Varieties include Geisha, Caturra, Catuai and Pacamara. Award: the family has won the Best of Panama competition multiple times.
